Readability Audits
Plain English, readability scores, accessible design - there are lots of elements that go into what makes financial literature easy to understand for customers. In fact, our comprehensive readability audit will check your documents for over 50 individual metrics and provide easy-to-implement recommendations to improve your readability.
Our CUE Readability Score is an industry-first.
We make sure that the understanding of financial documents is not only measurable but truly comprehensive and inclusive of different customer needs. By combining traditional readability formulas with best practices in clear financial communication, we provide a powerful tool for investment providers to meet both regulatory expectations and investor needs.
Why did we develop our own score?
Traditional readability formulas can be really helpful in identifying copy that is difficult to understand, but when used alone, do not fully capture the clarity, structure and accessibility needed for financial communications. They are best used in combination with other considerations, such as Plain English guidelines, and elements of accessible design.
We therefore created our own Reability Score - by combining a range of readability formulas tailored to different documents, alongside Plain English and design principles, we can help you create documents that meet both investor needs and industry standards.
Our blended approach weights different readability formulas based on their real-world impact on understanding.
It includes Plain English principles, making sure you present information in a way that aligns with the regulator’s expectations for customer understanding.
It provides a holistic view of readability rather than relying on a single formula.
Why is our approach unique?
We are aligned with FCA Consumer Duty principles, making sure that investment documents are ‘likely to be understood’.
We use multiple readability formulas and incorporate multiple Plain English guidelines, weighted to provide the most accurate reflection of investor understanding.
We balance technical accuracy with accessibility, so that documents remain clear without oversimplifying critical details.
We support manufacturers in meeting regulatory obligations, by giving practical guidance on how to design documents for effective investor communication.
